Friendship Force is an organization that is
dedicated to an idea - a commitment to world peace through the
understanding of people and cultures throughout the world. To this end
members travel throughout the world meeting people, sharing experiences,
and gaining insight into each other's lifestyles.
The goal is to bring understanding of each
other to the citizens of the world. Each Friendship Force member
who travels to another country on an exchange is an ambassador
representing the ideals - friendship and goodwill across national
boundaries.
When Friendship Force International was
founded in 1977 and there were only six exchanges that year.
By 2005 the number of exchanges had grown to 386.
In 2007 there were about 5,700
ambassadors taking part in exchanges around the world; the
highest number of ambassadors in the past eight years. There
currently are 374 chartered clubs and programs in 54
countries. By 2009, over 6,000 ambassadors are anticipated.
In the United States, the number of local clubs
in 2005 had grown to 108, all looking to host inbound exchanges and take
part in outbound exchanges each year.
