Frequently Asked Questions:

What is “Friendship Force”? Friendship Force International (FFI) is a worldwide network of clubs that bridge the barriers separating people in order to promote global understanding. We do this by connecting people from different countries and cultures at a personal level. When local hosts open their homes to visitors from other lands, true understanding develops through the sharing of meals, conversation and daily routines.

When do you meet? This San Diego club usually gathers for a general meeting (and a travel-related program) on the 3rd Saturday of every month (except July & August) at 1:30 pm.

Where do you meet? We usually meet at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Hillcrest. It is part of the Uptown District Shopping Center (Ralphs & Trader Joes) near 163 in San Diego, 92103. It is just north of University Avenue on Vermont Street between the Aladdin Café (1220 Cleveland Avenue) and the Terra Restaurant (1270 Cleveland Avenue).

What else do you do?  Primarily, we go on an “Outgoing Exchange” and host an “Incoming Exchange” every year. The club also usually meets for dinner at a different ethnic restaurant on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm, (as well as other special events throughout the year). See our current newsletter for events.

How many members do you have? Our club has about 95 (mostly retired) members, (both singles and couples).

How much does it cost to join? Guests are free to visit the general meeting. Membership costs $30 (or $50 per couple) per year, (payable at the December meeting).

What is an “Exchange”? An Exchange lasts for 5-7 days per destination. In an “Incoming Exchange”, we host one or two guests in our home and take their group of about 20 to the area’s attractions. We also all come together for several dinner parties. Click here for further information about a typical exchange in San Diego. In an “Outgoing Exchange”, we enjoy those same benefits at other Friendship Force International club members’ homes, (view the blog of our latest Exchange here). View our Club’s Exchange History here.

How much does it cost to go on an “Outgoing Exchange”? We usually go to two different areas in a country, (plus we usually add a few extra days to see more on our own). That will cost between $750 and $1800 (plus airfare) for 10-18 days. Click here to see examples of other available Exchanges.
