President's Letter for April 2017

Published on 4/8/2017
Happy Easter, Happy Passover, and Welcome to Spring Time. We are well into our Friendship Force year. Our March meeting was well attended and included an interesting program on “Wine in San Diego”. Lauren Beaudry was kind enough to select a begonia plant for the 1st prize award to Gin Meyers for her delicious pecan bars. We will continue judging and presenting a prize for the best snack "offering" each month.
Six of our members accompanied by members of other FF clubs around the United States are now in Vietnam. They should have many adventures to report at our next general meeting. Nancy Alongi, ED for Madison, has received all the paper work and money for this Wisconsin "journey" (exchange May 19-26th). Any questions about Madison, contact Nancy.
Mary Prokup, the ED for incoming Austin exchange, will continue soliciting members to work on that “journey” which begins on August 1st. Tom Schulz, the ED for the incoming international exchange from Leuven, Belgium, which begins Sept. 25th, will coordinate with Mary to assure equal coverage of members’ participation this summer for both. Please mark your calendars and be pre-pared to sign up for planning, hosting, helping, etc. We encourage all our members to volunteer for committees and of course, for exchange responsibilities.
Thanks to Bob Traber for again providing helpful hints to access our club's website. It provides more information than you can imagine! Don't forget to log into this new website (Website address http://ff-sd.clubexpress.com/). Bob has "hard copies" of our 2017 Membership Directory available for $5.00.
Now that our outgoing and incoming exchanges (journeys) for 2018 have been designated, it isn’t too early to seriously think about whether you would go. . The “journey” to Moscow, Russia (suggested either Spring or Fall of 2018) for the international exchange and Long Island, New York as the domestic exchange (suggested month September 2018) are closer than you think. The international incoming journey will be Gisborne, New Zealand (suggested date, July 2018). Mark your calendars.
The next board meeting will be held at the home of Mike & Susie Boyko, (see Event Calendar for location)  Our next General Meeting will be Saturday, April 15th at Joyce Beers Community Center at 1:30 PM. Our program for this meeting will be "Russia” presented by Michael Romm, a Russian friend of Mike Boyko. Members are encouraged to bring questions for our speaker. There will be No General Meeting in May, so all the more important to attend this April meeting. Don't forget a prize presentation for the best appetizer/dessert at this meeting. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Carol Babbitt, President
