August Message from Tom

Published on 8/1/2016
Hello Friends,

Welcome back after our short June recess. I was thrilled that so many attended our July picnic (see below)  and concert in Coronado! We had 42, (about as much as our normal meetings), 20% listened to the concert and 80% enjoyed some great fellowship together. Moyra Woodward even sent us a few visitors: Welcome to Mary Hallgren and Rachnee Keirsey! Thanks to all of you for the delicious summer potluck foods, and a special thanks to Gin Meyers and the Pizzatos who came early to secure our spot.

We even managed to accomplish some business for our Costa Rica Incoming Exchange this August 24 -29. We’ve had a lot of FUN so far this year, but now it is time to get down to the real business of our Club: putting on two spectacular and memorable Exchanges for our returning friends’ visits to San Diego. Bob Traber has some new creative activities planned for our amigos from Costa Rica: Ticos love to sing and dance, so we are going American Line Dancing at “In Cahoots”, and the food at the Farewell Dinner is American BBQ! Well done Bob! I hope you all attend some or all of the FUN activities and get to know our friends from the San Jose’ club who put on a fine exchange for us in Costa Rica last year. Sign-up and pay in advance.

Finally, Thanks to all of you who have answered the call for your service to our club this year. We’ve had a few new EDs and Board Members and lots of new members have gotten involved in the ongoing committees and jobs that makes our club great. And we have grown closer to everyone in our club due to that involvement! Your FUN President will be retiring after this year, and WE NEED YOU to step up and continue in that spirit to make our club even better. Please contact Past President Mike Boyko to get more involved as a “Fun” President, “Happy” Vice President or a “Cheerful” Board member in 2017.
